The name derived from the fact that these cheeses were primarily made when the animals returned from the alpine pastures and were tired (stracco) from the journey.

Stracchino and Crescenza are almost similar product for the taste and texture (procedures are slightly different). Is a kind of cheese typical of Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, and Liguria It is normally square.
